  • N.Y picked as U.S. candidate to host 2012 Olympics by Neil Chase
The U.S. Olympic Committee picked New York as its candidate to host the 2012 Summer Olympics, advancing it to the international competition against a field of cities that could include Toronto, Rome, Paris, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro. The International Olympic Committee will vote in 2005. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg assured the committee that there was a kitty of about $5 billion to put all events within the city limits. "We won't bring the Olympics back to the United States on the cheap," said the billionaire city leader, comparing his plan to a lower cost plan submitted by the other finalist, San Francisco.

Tenet says it won't announce bad news on call (THC) by Michael Baron
Tenet Healthcare (THC) is saying that it doesn't plan to announce negative news in its conference call after the closing bell. The company issued a press release saying that rumors to this effect are untrue, and that the purpose of the conference call is "simply to respond to investor questions about recent events." Tenet also said that it's gratified to learn that it's not under investigation in connection with the FBI's service of search warrants at the offices of two doctors working out of its facility in Redding, Calif. The doctors are accused of false billing and performing unnecessary procedures. The stock is off $3.35, or 11 percent, to $25.55, in late action.
